The device is supported in Send Mode using a RS232 interface by the driver gmc-mh-1x-2x-rs232 and is detected as a Metrahit 28S. Set the multimeter to use the communication adaptor RS232.
The device is supported using a RS232 interface by the driver gmc-mh-27x. The communication adaptor USB-Hit should work, too, but is untested.

The device has got a device address that can be set to values from 0 to 15 in the setup. Using the device address 15 is recommended if only a single device is used, it sets a special mode with simplified addressing. The device address 0 sets a special mode where the multimeter does not send replies. It cannot be used with sigrok.

The device might be not detected by the driver if it is in a mode where it sends data rarely, either with a huge send interval or with a measurement function that delivers a very low data rate, e.g.  temperature measurements with K type sensor. Then it should be set to a mode with higher data rate during the initialisation of the driver.
If several devices of the Metrahit 27x family are used on the same RS232 interface using cascaded RS232 interfaces, they need to be set to different device addresses from 1 to 15. In opposite to what the manual says, it seems that the device address 15 can be used, too. This feature is untested.

Please contact  Matthias' if you can test one of the untested features.

Please note: This page is a work in progress and still partly incorrect.

The Gossen Metrawatt Metrahit 27I is a 3100/31000 counts 600 V CAT II handheld digital multimeter with IR (RS232/USB) connectivity. It supports milliohm and insulation (megaohm) measurements and has data logging capabilities.

There are two versions of this device, an older one with yellow rotary switch and a newer one with red rotary switch. They also have different power supply connectors.

Hardware

  • Power supply:
    • Battery: 3x 1,2 V NiMH rechargeable batteries
    • External power supply NA HIT 27 (Art. Z218J) by Gossen Metrawatt, 5V, 600 mA (newer version)
  • Fuse:
    • FF (UR) 1,6 A/1000 V AC/DC (10 kA) 6,3 mm x 32 mm
